I hope its okay that I ask for help with my forum 
I would like to know how you set up ranks and colors. I have a freeforums forum, too. Do I have to pay for this feature? I tried to figure it out on my own but failed

Ok, first log into your ACP.
From there, go to your mod center located under Hosting System. Then turn on the mod that says ranks.
Screenshot:
Check the box, On.
Then go back to your ACP index, scroll all the way down to User Admin. You will see ranks and rank colors.
